Originally created by the Historic Strater Hotel in Durango, Colorado, the Durango Ragtime and Early Jazz Festival was reformed by Adam Swanson as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The specific purposes and objectives of our corporation include preserving, sharing, and celebrating early American ragtime and jazz music by providing a festival to educate through seminars and lessons, engage young people, and inspire all who are touched by the power of this uniquely American music. We believe deeply in sustaining and recognizing this music form as it plays a pivotal role in our American heritage. In cooperation with our partners at the Strater Hotel, Durango Arts Center, and Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, we hope to continue this mission many years into the future and keep the ragtime playing in the Old West!
